DP Parameters

Phase I – Student Becomes the Teacher

In this phase of the project, you will become the teacher. In a group of three, you will conduct a 20-minute lesson on a specific topic related to rockets. Planning a lesson takes a lot of research and work before you can present. Each group member is responsible for a different part (called
a deliverable) and each person has a unique role in the group.

Research Topics

Rocket Shapes & Sizes	Research the different shapes, sizes, and types of rockets. Give an overview of the different types of rockets and their purpose.
Rocket Propulsion	Research the different types of rocket engines and fuels. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
Rocket Systems	What are the different parts of the rockets the class is designing? What are the parts of a rocket in general?
History of Rocketry	Who invented rockets? What have they been used for? How were they invented? How have they changed over time?
Modern Rocketry	Who, how, where: Who uses rockets? How are they used? Where are they used (in what jobs)?
The Space Race	What was the Space Race? Who was involved? What happened? What rockets were used?
Center of Gravity vs. Center of Pressure	What is a center of gravity? What is a center of pressure? In rocketry, how are they related?
The Physics of Rockets	What physical principles relate to rockets? What principles do you need to know in order to understand a rocket?

Deliverables

Daily blog reflections (all, individually) – Discuss what you did today. Do you have any concerns or questions? What is you agenda for tomorrow?

Research paper (Project Manager) - Write a report on your group’s research findings. Provide a list of all resources you used on your works cited. Use MLA format.

Lesson Plan (Lesson Architect) – Write a 20-minute lesson to teach the class about your topic. Use Mr. Davis’ template to structure your lesson. You must have an activity to keep the class involved in the lesson. Lesson Plan Template

Lesson Materials (Materials Designer) – Create the materials needed for the 20-minute lesson. Materials include handouts, diagrams, worksheets, props, experiments, etc. You must have at least one multimedia component (video, audio, animation, PowerPoint, etc)

Lesson Presentation (all) – As a group, teach your lesson to the class. Divide up roles and responsibilities so that everyone plays a part in the lesson.
